Earlier today I was chatting through Facebook, talking over the phone, and emailing people in the publishing industry to get my name out there. What most people do not realize is that writing is about sixty percent of the job. You have to market yourself networking where you can in person, over the phone, and through social media. Breaking into an already tight industry has been extremely difficult. One might even say it has been an uphill struggle to find my voice and type pages end on end.
Today I was grumpy. My father asked for me to perform a simple gesture to take him to pick up his car from the garage. I have not been sleeping too well as I search the stars at night to find my path, passion, and destiny as if you were watching a good movie or something. When I started typing, I started feeling more upbeat. I guess that is how musicians, artists, or writers in this case feel. As I saw on another author’s Twitter account, “I’d rather be writing.” Please understand I am not there just yet. As I thwart myself into the industry and get my name out there (trust me when I say I will get my name out there), it becomes more fun. Starting has been anything but fun, exciting, and happy. Talking about the idea of writing was even more fun that doing it sometimes. It has been extremely difficult to sit at the computer for hours and hours to type.
But today, I was disgruntled until I got to the coffee shop. I arrived, got a cup of coffee, and started typing. I felt better because I was doing what I was supposed to be doing at that particular moment in time. I was writing, and for the first time in awhile, it felt relieving to touch this keyboard. I would say that’s a good sign.
It is a rough job market right now, but you're doing the right thing by continuing to write no matter what. Good luck with your search and if I can be of assistance, let me know!
